Every year since 2001, the Institute of Aikido Australia has successfully run a Winter camp over the Foundation Day long weekend in June. Usually, around 20-25 students from the Institute attend training, with the occasional guests.
Winter school training consists of a combination of aikido basics, higher level techniques and weapons training. Students of all grades are encouraged to attend. Students are required to bring their own bokken and jo. Senior students should also bring shinai, tanto, ei and other weapons.
Sunday afternoon will be kept as free time for attendees. Those wishing to stay the Monday night to socialise and avoid the long weekend traffic, an invitational black tie dinner is held Monday night. A small extra fee to cover accommodation for the evening is required.
Class attendance photos for previous wintercamps can be viewed in the Gallery.
